22nd JANUARY STRIKE IN CENTRAL BANK – HISTORY CREATED

In response to the call of UFCBU all employees and officers of Central Bank of India, observed One Day Strike on 22nd January 2007. The strike was a grand and splendid success. It was a total strike all over the country. At the outset, on behalf of UFCBU, we convey you our heartiest congratulations on the magnificent show of strength, unity, determination, commitment and conviction exhibited by the Centralities through the all round success of the strike on 22nd January 2007. Keep it up and participate whole heartedly in all the programmes of UFCBU.

It has been acknowledged by the leaders of other banks who had witnessed / addressed the gatherings / rallies in different parts of the country including Mumbai that they had never seen such massive participation of employees and officers in any agitation of any bank. The huge presence of the ladies in the rallies all over the country has shown their concern and conviction. The ladies have also realized that the situation in the bank has become unbearable and intolerable. The epoch making rally at Azad Maidan, Mumbai and various other parts of the country became totally successful due to the fully spontaneous participation of the employees and officers. The attacks of the management, pressure being exercised and the way the unions and leaders are being denigrated have multiplied the agitated feeling of the staff members. The victimization actions against the staff in the form of transfers, memos, charge sheets and suspensions have exposed the management’s vindictive attitude towards the organizations, the leaders and the staff.

Comrades, this strike is to redress the following fundamental issues:

1. Attacks on Trade Unions Rights
2. Unilateral changes in staff related policies
3. Harassments of Employees and Officers
4. Non-Implementation of agreed decisions
5. Vindictive attacks on leaders

Out of desperation, the management is trying to take all types of provocative actions including hurling abuses / unparliamentary language against the unions and leaders, calling sniffer dogs to have a security check of the bank premises in Chennai and thereby raising doubts on the staff members, calling the employees to the cabins of Executives and threatening them of dire consequences if they participate in the agitation, desperate telephone calls to the Branch Managers extending all types of threats for forcing them not to participate in the strike etc. Inspite gross misuse of authority and power trying to distance the employees from the agitation, all round success of the strike of 22nd January 2007 and the massive participation of the staff in the rallies have shown that the employees and officers are convinced that determined struggle is the only way to get justice.

22nd January 2007 will be written in golden letters in the history of trade union movement of the bank and the banking industry. Heartiest congratulation for the all round success of 22nd January Strike and for the solidarity shown by all of you.
